1. Component Degradation

The PID effect is called Potential Induced Degradation. The direct hazard of PID is that a large amount of charge accumulates on the surface of the battery, which makes the surface of the battery passivated. The harm of the PID effect makes the power of the battery components sharply attenuated; it reduces the fill factor (FF), open-circuit voltage, and short-circuit current of the battery components; reduces the output power of the solar power station, reduces the power generation, and reduces the power station revenue of the solar power station.


To suppress the PID effect, component manufacturers have done a lot of work and made certain progress in materials and structures, such as the use of anti-PID materials, anti-PID batteries, and packaging technologies. Some scientists have done experiments, and the attenuation phenomenon caused by PID disappears after drying the attenuated battery module at a temperature of about 100°C for 100 hours. The practice has proved that the component PID phenomenon is reversible. The prevention of PID problems is more from the inverter side. First, the negative grounding method is adopted to eliminate the negative pressure of the negative pole of the component to the ground. The second is to increase the voltage of the components so that all components have a positive voltage to the ground, which can effectively eliminate the PID phenomenon.
