Does an Electrical Outlet Draw Power When Not in Use?

In order to save energy and protect the environment, we need to know which devices in the home are also consuming electricity when they are not working, find the problem, and solve it.

If the socket is not plugged into the electrical appliance, the electrical appliance is definitely not consuming electricity.

If the electrical switch is plugged into the socket, but the electrical appliance does not work, does the electrical appliance consume electricity?

There are two situations:

1. The plugged electrical appliances are controlled by mechanical switches. So as long as the switch is off, the appliance will not consume power.

2. Electrical appliances operated by remote control, such as televisions, air conditioners, etc. Because the remote-control receiver needs to be powered on all the time to receive the remote-control signal at any time. Therefore, there will be a small amount of power consumption when not in use, which is called static power consumption. Static power consumption is generally around 3 watts. Therefore, for this type of electrical appliance, it is best to unplug it or install another switch when not in use. There are many sockets with a switch function. After the switch of the socket is turned off, the corresponding electrical appliances will not consume power.
