Electromagnetic Environment Control Limits In China
On January 1, 2015, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of my country and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine jointly issued the "Electromagnetic Environmental Control Limits".
The standard is mainly aimed at AC power transmission and transformation facilities, communications, radar and navigation facilities, radio and television facilities, etc., and specifies the control indicators of electromagnetic fields in the environment from four aspects: electric field strength, magnetic field strength, magnetic induction strength, and power density. The standard also adds restrictions on equipment using frequencies from 1Hz to 0.1MHz, which are mainly applicable to AC power transmission and transformation facilities, such as high-voltage wires and transformers. For wireless communication terminals, household appliances, etc., the electromagnetic environment limits are controlled by electrical product standards.
The new standard also exempts some radio frequency transmitting equipment from the perspective of electromagnetic environmental protection management. Equipment with a frequency of 0.1MHz-300GHz can be exempted from management as long as it does not exceed the equivalent radiated power specified in the standard. Typical exempted devices include mobile communication microcellular antennas, WLAN wireless routers, traffic speed radars, and some amateur radio stations.
