Remote Terminal Unit (RTU)
RTU is a remote measurement and control unit, which is responsible for monitoring and controlling on-site signals and industrial equipment. Compared with the commonly used programmable logic controller PLC, RTU usually has excellent communication ability, and a larger storage capacity is suitable for harsher temperature and humidity environments and provides more computing functions. It is precise because of the perfect function of RTU that RTU products have been widely used in SCADA systems.
A Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is an electronic device installed at a remote site to monitor and measure sensors and equipment installed at the remote site. The RTU converts the measured state or signal into a data format that can be sent over the communication medium. It also converts the data sent from the central computer into commands to control the functions of the equipment.
Features of RTU:
(1) The communication distance is long.
(2) Used in various industrial sites with harsh environments.
(3) Modular structural design, easy to expand.
(4) Widely used in water conservancy, power dispatching, municipal dispatching, and other industries with remote signaling, telemetry, and remote control.
The main difference: DTU is the client of the SOCKET connection. Therefore, only DTU cannot complete the wireless transmission of data, and it needs to be used together with the background software. The difference between FTU and RTU is as follows:
FTU is small in size and large in quantity, can be placed on outdoor feeders, has transmitters, direct AC sampling, high-temperature resistance, severe cold resistance, and is suitable for harsh outdoor environments.
The RTU is installed indoors and has high environmental requirements. The amount of data collected by the FTU is small, the communication rate requirements are low, and the reliability requirements are high. The amount of data collected by the RTU is large, the communication rate is high, the reliability is high, and there is a dedicated channel.
TTU is a single functional unit, which only collects and controls the information of distribution transformers.
