Is the Current Measurement Related to the Voltage Level?

Simply measuring the current, there is no difference between one ampere of 10,000 volts and one ampere of one volt because it only means that one ampere of current passes through a curtain wire or a certain node, regardless of the voltage level.

Although two power supplies with different voltages output 1A current, their output energy is different. Therefore, the power supply company does not charge electricity fees according to the current but depends on how much electricity you use.

The 24V power supply outputs 1A current, then its power is 24ⅹ1=24W, and if it works continuously for one hour, it is 24Wh or 0.024 kWh.

In the same way, the output power of another 220V, the 1A power supply can be calculated, of course, to be 220W, and the consumption per hour is 0.22 kWh.

This kind of meter that can measure the power consumption is usually called an electricity meter or an electric energy meter. This meter measures not just current, but the product of current and voltage—power, which is then multiplied by time.

There are actually several concepts involved here, namely the current unit A (ampere), the voltage unit V (volt), and the product of the two is the power unit W (watt). Multiply the power by the time h (hours) to get the unit of electrical energy Wh (watt-hours). And 1000Wh is what we call one kilowatt hour (KWh).

Therefore, the electric energy meter should connect the live wire and the neutral wire to the meter, in order to detect the two parameters of voltage and current. This means that the energy meter not only has current parameters but also voltage limits. For example, a 110Ⅴ20A meter cannot be connected to a 220v10A user. Although the electrical power they allow is 2200W, they are still not universal. The voltage and current should meet the requirements at the same time.
