Global PV Overview in 2020

In 2020, at least 20 countries will have a new photovoltaic installed capacity exceeding 1GW. The cumulative installed capacity of 14 countries exceeds 10 GW, and the cumulative installed capacity of 5 countries exceeds 40 GW. Among them, China ranked first with a cumulative installed capacity of 254.4GW, followed by the 27 EU countries with a cumulative total of 151.3GW, the United States ranked third with 93.2GW, and Japan ranked fourth with 71.4GW.

The main growth of the photovoltaic market in 2020 will come from China and Vietnam, and a small part will come from the European Union and the United States. The main market decline came from India. In general, COVID-19 has no significant impact on the market development in 2020. Although the blockade measures during Q1 caused some project delays, most countries have resumed in the third and fourth quarters.

The top ten countries with new photovoltaic installations in 2020 are China, the United States, Vietnam, Japan, Germany, India, Australia, South Korea, Brazil, and the Netherlands. In the past few years, several countries with large installed capacity, including France, Mexico, and Turkey, have noticeably weakened their development momentum and have already withdrawn from the top ten positions.
