Deciphering the History of Development and Change of Mobile Communication Technology What is communication? (5)

5G: Divided into two categories of mobile Internet and Internet of Things, the speed may reach 10 Gbps

5G, the fifth-generation mobile communication technology, is also an extension after 4G. At present, the requirements and key technical indicators (KPIs) of 5G have been basically determined. The ITU divides 5G application scenarios into two categories: mobile Internet and Internet of Things. All countries believe that in addition to supporting the development of the mobile Internet, 5G will also solve the massive wireless communication needs of machines and greatly promote the development of the Internet of Vehicles, Industrial Internet and other fields.

5G presents the characteristics of low latency, high reliability, and low power consumption

As far as the current planning is concerned, 5G is different from 4G, 3G, and 2G. It is not a single wireless access technology, nor several new wireless access technologies, but a variety of new wireless access technologies and existing technologies. There is a general term for integrated solutions of wireless access technology (4G backward evolution technology). 5G demand has expanded to the IoT space.

It has to be said that high speed is the biggest feature of 5G. The next development of 4G can reach a peak Internet speed of 1G, while 5G can reach a maximum of 10G. This also means that in the 5G network environment, a movie with ultra-high-definition quality can be downloaded within 1 second. Compared with the 4G network, the 5G network not only has a higher transmission rate, but also presents the characteristics of low latency, high reliability, and low power consumption during transmission. Low power consumption can better support IoT applications.

Although the current 5G standard is still far away, considering the huge terminal access and data traffic requirements brought by the Internet of Vehicles and the Internet of Things in the future, as well as various application experience improvement requirements, some "hard requirements" about 5G have been widely recognized in advance. Wireless communication technology is usually updated every 10 years. 3G began to mature and commercialize in 2000, and 4G began to mature and commercialize in 2010. Now 5G is being studied, and the maturity in 2020 should be expected in line with the law.
