Why do We feel Smart Meter Consume More Power Than Traditional Mechanical Meter?

In the previous article, we talked about smart meter consumes power all the ways but not on the user's wallet. So, the question comes to why we feel we consume more power after we install a smart meter than a traditional mechanical meter?

It is mainly because of sensitivity. Smart meters are much more sensitive than traditional mechanical meters. Some small load currents (such as the power consumption of TVs, air conditioners, computers and other electrical appliances in standby) can be sensed, so that although the power consumption is very small, it will also be recorded. What's more, many families are not used to cutting off all the power of "electric mice" (small electrical appliances), so the accumulated power is actually not small. However, due to the low sensitivity of the mechanical meter, it cannot sense a small load current, so it is not included in the meter. Therefore, it will give users the illusion that smart meters "go faster" than mechanical meters.
