What Is The Reason For The Rotation/Idling Of The Water Meter?
The water in the pipe is emptied, and the air "takes advantage of it". When the water supply is restored, the water flow presses the air in the pipeline to each blind end of the indoor pipeline to form "compressed air" until the air pressure and water pressure are balanced. There is an interface between gas and water, and the pressure difference across the interface is zero. When the water pressure changes, a certain pressure difference is formed on both sides of the interface, and the balance of gas and water is destroyed. To compensate for this differential pressure to achieve a new balance, the air pressure must be changed accordingly. This causes the volume of air to expand or contract, thereby promoting the flow of tap water in the "connector" of the pipe. Thus, the phenomenon of "water meter idling" occurs.
Due to the pressure of the pipeline mixed with air and the change of water temperature, there is air in the water pipe, and the pulsation effect generated by it makes the water meter installed in some positions also have a slow running phenomenon when the water is not flowing, and the number is often accumulated and increased.
Generally, the reason for the rotation of the water meter is mainly due to the unstable water pressure on the upper floors. Therefore, the water meter rotates forward and reverse, resulting in inaccurate readings. For high-level users like this, there is a secondary pressurized water supply. When someone uses water, the water pressure in the pipeline drops and the water meter will reverse. When the water is turned off instantaneously, the water pressure of the pipeline rises, and the water meter will rotate forward.
When water is used, the valve is opened slowly, so the water pressure in the pipeline drops slowly, the inertia generated is small, and the magnitude and speed of the water meter reversal are slow.
However, when the water is stopped, the valve is closed instantly, so the water pressure in the pipeline rises quickly, and the inertia generated is also large, and the speed of the water meter is also faster, which causes the water meter to rotate.
