What Are the Classifications of Electric Energy Meters?(1)

An electricity meter, short for electric energy meter, is a special instrument for measuring electric energy, commonly known as a watt-hour meter and fire meter. The electricity meter is the most basic equipment for electric energy measurement. It is widely used in all aspects of power generation, power supply and electricity consumption. It is an indispensable measuring instrument in our life. There are many types of electric energy meters, which can be divided into DC electric energy meters and AC electric energy meters according to the circuit used and can be divided into integral electric energy meters and split electric energy meters according to their structure. How to choose the specifications and models when purchasing a household electric meter? Let’s talk about it.


1. Classification of energy meter.

1). According to the circuit used, it can be divided into DC energy meter and AC energy meter. AC electric energy meters can be divided into single-phase electric energy meters, three-phase three-wire electric energy meters and three-phase four-wire electric energy meters according to their phase lines.

2). According to its working principle, it can be divided into electrical and mechanical energy meters and electronic energy meters (also known as static energy meters, solid-state energy meters). Electromechanical electric energy meters are used in AC circuits as ordinary electric energy measuring instruments, and the most commonly used ones are inductive electric energy meters. Electronic energy meters can be divided into fully electronic energy meters and electromechanical energy meters.

3). According to its structure, it can be divided into integral electric energy meter and split electric energy meter.

4). According to its use, it can be divided into active energy meters, reactive energy meters, maximum demand meters, standard energy meters, multi-rate time-of-use energy meters, prepaid energy meters, loss energy meters and multi-function energy meters.


5). According to its accuracy level, it can be divided into ordinary installed electric energy meters (0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 grades) and portable precision electric energy meters (0.01, 0.02, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 grades).


2. Specifications of energy meter

At present, the forms and functions of electric energy meters are diversified, and the major manufacturers have different names on the models. Conventional active energy only uses two letters to indicate its function and purpose. Other electronic energy meters with special functions use three letters to indicate their functions and uses.

1). The model of the electric energy meter

The model of the electric meter is generally written from the category code, group code, function code, design serial number, etc. The general electric energy meter category code is D. The group code is usually divided into: A (ampere-hour meter), B (standard), D (single-phase electric energy meter), F (volt-hour meter), J (DC), S (three-phase three-wire), T (three-phase four-wire), X (reactive). Function codes are usually divided into: F (time-of-use billing), S (electronic), Y (prepaid), D (multi-function), M (pulse), Z (maximum demand). Design serial numbers are numbers.

2). Specifications of electric energy meter

Electric energy meters are generally divided into single-phase electric meters and three-phase electric meters. Commonly used household electric meters generally use single-phase electric meters, the rated working voltage is 220V, the rated frequency is 50Hz, and the rated working current model is different and has different specifications such as 2.5A, 3A, 5A, 10A and so on.
