Prepaid Electricity Meter Precautions and Reading Principle

An electric energy meter is an instrument used to measure electric energy. You may find this familiar or strange. Everyone has at least one electricity meter in their home. But many people only know that the watt-hour meter is an instrument used to measure electricity. Don't know how to read the watt-hour meter? Just a very vague understanding of the calculation of the watt-hour meter? Here's how to read the watt-hour meter. How Electricity Meters Work

When the meter is connected to the circuit under test, alternating current flows through the current coil and the voltage coil. The alternating magnetic flux passes through the aluminum disk, creating eddy currents in the aluminum disk. The vortices are, in turn, acted upon by the force in the magnetic field, which causes the aluminum disk to rotate with torque (active torque). The greater the power dissipated by the load, the greater the current through the current coil, the greater the eddy currents induced in the aluminum disk, and the greater the torque on the aluminum disk. That is, torque is proportional to the power consumed by the load. The more power, the more torque, and the faster the aluminum disc spins. When the aluminum disc rotates, it is affected by the braking torque generated by the permanent magnet, which is opposite to the active torque. The magnitude of the braking torque is proportional to the rotational speed of the aluminum disc. The faster the aluminum disc rotates, the greater the braking torque. When the active torque and braking torque reach a temporary balance, the aluminum disc will rotate at a uniform speed. The electrical energy consumed by the load is proportional to the number of revolutions of the aluminum disc. As the aluminum disc spins, it drives a counter indicating the power consumed. This is the simple process of how the energy meter works.

What is the reading on the meter

The first: the general straight-forward single-phase and three-phase meters can directly read the numbers, minus the last reading, which is the phase of the electricity. The incoming wire of the straight-in meter is thick, and if you look closely, there is no connection through the transformer.

The second type: The three-phase electric energy meter is connected by a current transformer connection. The three-phase electric energy meter is connected with 10 electric energy meters. In order to observe the connection current ratio of the current transformer, the nameplate of the current transformer has a mark with a number greater than 5. Such as 10. The reading on the meter number multiplied by the current ratio is a measure of energy, plus damage and line losses.

Third: Single-phase meter measures three-phase electricity. The reading method is to connect the meter directly and multiply the number on the meter by 3. If the meter is connected by a transformer, the reading method is to multiply the number of meters by the current multiple of the transformer, then multiply by 3.

Fourth: The smart meter has only one LCD screen. If it is single-phase, it will directly display the total power and remaining power, which can be read directly. If it is an IC card meter, only the lamp display is a card meter. So there's a little red dot on the meter, and then that red dot jumps to "always use". Then skip to "Remaining". Dual graphics card table, read above or below. The three-phase prepaid meter is directly read, and the induction meter reading is multiplied by the CT rate.

Precautions for the use of electricity meters

Pay attention to the use of the watt-hour meter, which can be directly connected to the circuit for measurement at low voltages (up to 500 volts) and small currents (tens of amps). In the case of high voltage or high current, the energy meter cannot be directly connected to the line. Should be used in conjunction with voltage transformers or current transformers. For the electric energy meter directly connected to the line, appropriate specifications should be selected according to the load voltage and current, so that the rated voltage and rated current of the electric energy meter are equal to or slightly larger than the load voltage or current. In addition, the load power consumption is more than 10% of the rated value of the watt-hour meter, otherwise the measurement is not accurate. Sometimes you can't even move the aluminum pan. So the gauge can't be too big. If you choose too small, it is easy to burn out the meter.
