International Radio Science Union: Wifi Does Not Emit Much Radiation

Gao Yougang, a professor of the China Branch of the International Radio Science Union's Electromagnetic Noise and Interference Committee, told the Lifetimes reporter that WiFi is actually a small local area network with a transmitter, a wireless router, that generates electromagnetic radiation around it. The working power of common wireless routers is mostly between 30 and 500 milliwatts, which is lower than that of ordinary mobile phones (about 125 milliwatts to 2 watts). The World Health Organization has pointed out that there is currently no evidence that mobile phone radiation will bring negative effects. Generally speaking, a 20-minute phone call will absorb more radiation than a year of wireless router use. It can be seen that the impact of WiFi radiation on health is minimal.


It should be reminded that if the WiFi is used incorrectly, it may also cause harm to the human body. First of all, the amount of radiation received by the human body is related to the frequency. The higher the frequency, the greater the damage. Therefore, there is no need to use an overpowered wireless router at home. Secondly, the magnitude of radiation hazard is also related to the distance. The greater the distance, the smaller the hazard. Industry insiders once tested in 2012 and found that the power density measured at 1 cm next to the WiFi antenna was 9.1 microwatts/square centimeter, which is less than the 40 microwatts/square centimeter stipulated in my country. But if you have pregnant women, children, the elderly, or people with weakened immune systems, keep the wireless router 1 meter or more away from their range of activities. Finally, it is best not to place WiFi devices in the bedroom, especially by the bed. If you are not using WiFi, it is best to turn off the wireless router to reduce unnecessary risks. Don't use your laptop on your lap, it's best to place it on a table or stand.
