Application of New 4G Technology in the Electricity Meter Industry
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Promoting the Comprehensive Development of the Mobile Internet of Things" on May 7, 2020. The notice clearly put forward relevant requirements for the establishment of the mobile Internet of Things. Promoting the migration and transformation of 2G/3G Internet of Things services and establishing an integrated ecosystem of mobile Internet of Things (NB-IoT) (Narrowband Internet of Things), 4G (including LTE-Cat1, that is, 4G networks of rate category 1) and 5G. On the basis of 4G network coverage and accelerating 5G network construction, NB-IoT is used to meet the needs of most low-rate scenarios, LTE-Cat1 (hereinafter referred to as Cat1) to meet medium-rate IoT requirements and voice requirements, and 5G technology to meet the high speed, Low-latency networking requirements.
As shown in the figure above, the application scenarios of the three rates have corresponding cellular modules that meet the requirements, so why do you need NB-IoT, Cat.1, and eMTC to support it? The main reasons are as follows:
1. 2G/3G will withdraw from the network in the future, and NB-IoT technology based on 4G/5G (NB-IoT+4G+5GNR) will take on the task of the future Internet.
2. Cat.1 has become the best choice because NB-IOT cannot meet the requirements of medium-speed and mobile characteristics, and eMTC development is un-well.
3. They can seamlessly access the 3G/4G network.
As an important part of the new infrastructure, Cat 1 and NB-IoT play important roles in areas such as financial payment, industrial monitoring, logistics tracking, agriculture, energy consumption monitoring, elevator monitoring, road lighting management system, utility management, etc.
